KRA Officer Dies After Attack by a Swarm of Bees in His Car

A Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officer lost his life following a bee attack in Mombasa on Saturday.

John Muthine Mutwiri was in the company Maurice Kinyua and Hezekiel Gikambi inside his car when a swarm of bees arrived and circled the vehicle.

“The bees entered the vehicle and they alighted to get safety outside. They all ran in different directions,” says a police report filed under OB number 41/11/12/2021 at Makupa police station.

As he scampered to safety, Mutwiri was overwhelmed by the multiple bee stings and collapsed at a nearby garage.

“Through the assistance of the garage owner one Mwaruwa Chikophe, he managed to get a Tuk Tuk and rushed him to hospital,” the police report adds.

Unfortunately, Mutwiri was pronounced dead on arrival at Coast Teaching and Referral Hospital. His body was taken to the Coast General Hospital mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination.

The incident happened at the Red Brick area within Majengo in Mombasa at around 11:45 am. The deceased was attacked to KRA investigation and enforcement department, according to reports.

In some cases, bee stings may lead to a severe allergic reaction called anaphylaxis and death.
