Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua Crowned Best Governor in Africa

John Wanjohi Dec 11, 2021

Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua has been named the best governor on the continent by My Media Africa, a Nigerian-based media company.

Mutua, who has served as the governor for Machakos since 2013, won the ‘Best African Governor’ award at the second edition of the Africa Illustration Awards 2021.

The award recognizes leaders from African countries who have performed well in various categories including sports, arts, community development, agriculture, philanthropy, education, and governance.

Mutua defeated Oscar Mabuyane of Premier of Eastern Cape province (South Africa) and Bushy Maape of Premier of North Western Province (South Africa) to win the award.

He made it to the final list of the awards due to his remarkable work in infrastructure, youth development, water provision, healthcare, and recreational facilities.

One of the judges Henry Iwuanyanwu said he was particularly impressed by Mutua’s efforts to keep Machakos town clean. He noted that Machakos People's Park was clean, beautiful, and free for the public.

“I dedicate this award to my Machakos Cabinet, County Assembly, and public service. We have done it together,” Governor Mutua said.

This year’s award ceremony was held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Lagos, Nigeria on Thursday.

The 2020 Best African Governor award was presented to Babagana Umara Zulum, Governor of Borno State in Nigeria.
