"God Has Come Through for Kenya": Ruto Says After Appellate Court Shoots Down BBI

Deputy President William Ruto has reacted after the Appeals Court upheld a High Court ruling that nullified the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) constitutional review process.

Ruto, a fierce critic of BBI, took to Twitter to express his joy moments after the seven-judge bench finished delivering its verdict on the appeal case.

“God, our heavenly Father has come through for Kenya & stopped the coalition of the known, the mighty, and the powerful from destroying our constitution,” Ruto wrote on his Twitter handle.

He added: “Our God, help the alliance of the unknown, the jobless, the hustlers & struggling farmers to now engineer our economy from bottom up.”

ODM leader Raila Odinga, who was the main proponent of BBI, accepted the ruling made by the second-highest court in the country.

“The decision of the Court of Appeal today is remarkable as it forms part of the continuing conversation on the future of this country and the significance of our new Constitution to the political culture we and the generations that will come after us will practice,” said Odinga in a statement.

“It is likely that this is not the end of the conversation and the parties involved will each make their own decisions on how to proceed from the decision that has been delivered today.”
