Ruto Will Win the Presidency Easily, Says US-based Kenyan Scholar Makau Mutua

US-based Kenyan scholar Prof. Makau Mutua says Deputy President William Ruto will win the presidency early and easily.

In his weekly column on Sunday Nation, Mutua termed the 2022 presidential race as almost won, suggesting that none of the supposed Ruto opponents can match him.

"Mr. Ruto is surging while his opponents—declared or would be—are in a state of lethargy and catatonic schizophrenia. They've become the proverbial watermelon," Mutua said in the article titled “William Ruto, the fifth president.”

“That’s why I predict today that on election day 2022, Mr. Ruto will capture the State House hands down and early.”

Mutua, who is also an attorney, admitted that his prediction was not made "with the warm cockles of my heart" but simply as an empirical analysis of the current political situation in the country.

“While his opponents in Nasa or One-Kenya Alliance dither, wobble or remain comatose, he’s marching ahead collecting weaklings and stalwarts. Now he’s unstoppable...He’s acting as though his only opponent is Mr. Kenyatta.”

But Mutua insisted that Ruto is unqualified for any public office, “let alone the pinnacle of power.”

“Ruto has never seen a progressive or liberal idea he didn’t disdain, or oppose. Conversely, he supported every repressive measure under Kanu. He was Kanu’s enforcer and darling,” wrote Mutua.

He added: "I have only one vote. That's why Mr. Ruto might easily jog to State House if he bamboozled enough of compatriots to vote for him.”
