Nyeri Family in Distress as Businessman, His Two Cousins and Employee are Kidnapped
A family in Nyeri is seeking the government’s aid to rescue three of their kin and an employee who were abducted this week by unknown men.
34-year-old Isaac Mwangi, who was traveling with his wife and their 1-year-old daughter, was the first to be kidnapped. Their car was blocked by two vehicles before he was taken away by six men.
“One of the kidnappers asked me if I know how to drive and I told him I don’t, he got into our car and started driving us away. Then they took my husband into their Subaru Forester and told me ‘huyu tunaenda na yeye tuone kama tutaskizana,’” said Mwangi’s wife.
The gangsters left her and her daughter with their car by the roadside and drove off with her husband.
The wife made her way back to Narumoru but was met with news of the kidnapping of Wilson Wairimu, an employee at her husband’s pub in the town.
“When we came back, we did not go home straight, I went to my husband’s place of work to get the security guard to take me home. When I got there I was told he was taken by some unknown men at around 7:30 pm, that got me even more confused,” she said.
Two days later as they traveled with other family members after making inquiries about her husband in Ndaragwa, they were stopped by a car with gun-wielding men.
The armed men took away two brothers Bernard Wanjohi and Samuel Ngacha, who are cousins to her husband.
“A grey Probox blocked us, they lowered the window and corked a gun at us. I went completely blank…they opened the front door and took the driver first,” she said.
The family says it has no idea why their kin and Mwangi’s employee were kidnapped and have received no information from the police.
“If they’re being held by kidnappers, nobody has called us to ask for money. The police have not given us any information so we’re in total darkness, we just want our family members back,” Mwangi’s wife said.
On Tuesday, another Nyeri businessman Gerald Gwandaru was abducted by unknown men outside his hotel and bar in broad daylight.
Police say the incidents are under investigation.
