Widow of Murdered Kiiru Boys Principal Sentenced to 30 Years in Prison
Jane Muthoni, the widow of murdered Kiiru Boys High School Principal Simon Mwangi has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Muthoni’s co-accused Isaac Ng’ang’a was handed a similar sentence by Nakuru High Court judge Joel Ngugi on Thursday.
Muthoni’s 30-year sentence will be counted from November 22nd, 2016 while that of Ng’ang’a starts from December 28th, 2016.
While reading the sentences, Justice Ngugi acknowledged that the two were both first-time offenders and that Muthoni has young children, who consider her the sole breadwinner.
But the judge stated that the killing was premeditated, saying that that evidence tabled in court showed there was intent and several attempts to commit the crime.
“Both accused persons had opportunities to walk back but they chose the path of death,” ruled the judge.
Muthoni and Ng’ang’a were found guilty of killing Mwangi on May 18th, 2021.
Mwangi went missing on November 6th, 2016, and his lifeless and mutilated body was found dumped at Karakuta Coffee Estate in Juja, Kiambu county on November 14th, 2016.
Muthoni, the former principal of Icaciri Secondary School in Kiambu, was accused of hiring assassins to kill her husband.
The prosecution submitted that Muthoni paid four men to execute Mwangi on suspicion of having an extra-marital affair.
Key suspect Joseph Kariuki was handed a seven-year jail sentence after confessing to playing part in the murder alongside Nelson Njiru, who is still at large.
