John Wanjohi May 31, 2021

Kisumu County First Lady Dorothy Nyong’o has been feted in the US for her efforts in empowering women.

Dorothy, who is the wife of Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, was feted at the Woman of Magnitude Awards (WOMA) 2021 ceremony held in New York over the weekend.

The prestigious international award recognizes trailblazers who dedicate their time to support women's agenda in society.

Dorothy is the Managing Trustee of Africa Cancer Foundation (ACF), where she advocates for healthcare after her husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer 10 years ago.

She uses her position to create awareness on the prevention, management, and treatment of cancer.

Through Africa Cancer Foundation, she is positive that the continent will achieve the cancer-free Africa dream.

Together with her daughter Lupita Nyong’o, Dorothy was last year recognized by New York’s Harlem School of the Arts for the Visionary Lineage Award.

The event recognized extraordinary black women who lead by example as advocates for the importance of arts education through their inspiring accomplishments.

In 2019, she bagged the Harvard Global Health Catalyst Cancer Advocacy Champion Award at the Global Health Catalyst (GHC) summit, a premier annual event held at Harvard.
