Anti-Mugging Squad Deployed in Nairobi CBD to Hunt Down Thugs
An anti-mugging squad has been deployed to the Nairobi central business district to pursue criminals who have been terrorizing pedestrians and motorists.
Nairobi Police Commander Augustine Nthumbi said the move followed numerous complaints from members of the public who have fallen victim to the muggers.
Francis Osiemo was the latest to fall victim after he was attacked and robbed by a gang of five thugs on Tuesday.
He told police that he was accosted near the Kenya National Archives in the city center as he walked home at night.
The attackers threatened to kill him before robbing him of a laptop, two mobile phones, and Sh6,200 in cash.
Police said several other people have filed complaints about the same gang.
“We have profiled some groups and their modus operandi and the hunt is on,” Nthumbi said, adding that the gangs operate in groups of five to eight.
The anti-mugging squad is patrolling the CBD and along Uhuru Highway where motorists have complained of being harassed by the criminal gangs.
