President Uhuru Donates Sh1 Million Towards Benjamin Ayimba’s Medical Bill
President Kenyatta has contributed Sh1 million towards the hospital bill of ailing Kenyan rugby legend Benjamin Otieno Ayimba.
This was confirmed by Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja, who is currently leading a funds drive in support of Ayimba.
The donation comes two days after the family appealed for financial aid to settle a medical bill amounting to over Sh2 million.
Ayimba, who is suffering from cerebral malaria, has been in and out of the hospital since late 2020 and was recently readmitted to a Nairobi hospital after his condition deteriorated. He is to be transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) for specialized treatment.
During his career as a player, Ayimba captained both the Kenya 7s and 15s and represented the country at the Rugby Sevens World Cups in 2001 and 2005.
The 45-year-old is regarded as the most successful local Kenya 7s coach after guiding the national team to its first-ever World Sevens Series Cup title in 2016, thrashing Fiji 30-7 to win the Singapore 7s.
In 2009, the tactician led the team to its first-ever World Series Cup Final in Adelaide, Australia but lost 26-7 to South Africa.
Contributions can be made via pay bill number 8021673 under account name Benjamin Otieno Medical.
