I Don’t Owe Anyone Any Political Debt, Uhuru Says
President Kenyatta says he does not owe anyone any political debt.
Kenyatta, who appeared to speak indirectly to Deputy President William Ruto and his allies, stated that he is only indebted to Kenyans, who gave him the mandate to lead the nation.
“Some people keep saying I made a promise to them, no, I only have a promise and covenant with the people of Kenya. That is the promise I am implementing,” Uhuru said.
He added: “Ask your guy [Ruto] why he can’t allow me to do my work and keeps coming back for the baton, instead of waiting for his turn.”
Speaking during a meeting with 7,000 leaders from Mt. Kenya region at Sagana State Lodge on Saturday, Uhuru said his focus at the moment is to leave behind a united and peaceful country.
He further lashed out at Ruto for propagating what he termed as a dangerous political ideology of ‘Dynasty vs Hustler.’
“Leadership is God-given and I said it’s time for other tribes, I hear them abusing me. They even come to seek your votes while leveraging on my projects. Do not allow anyone to plan your future,” said Uhuru.
He used the meeting to woo Mt. Kenya leaders to rally behind the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), saying the region will reap big benefits if passed.
“You keep saying BBI is bad, if I may ask what is the bad thing? If we had more resources allocated to counties, how is that a bad thing? There are children in this country who get Sh150,000 bursaries while our kids get nothing since we have no enough resources. BBI will make our kids have these bursaries and our roads will be better, how is that a bad thing?” posed Uhuru.
“You see them here come to tell you, ooh you have been neglected and throwing some few coins your way to hoodwink you yet it’s the same money they have looted, your resources. Take that money when it comes, but don’t be blinded or misled,” he added.
