You Dished Top Gov’t Jobs to Kalenjins: Kalonzo Calls Out Deputy President William Ruto

John Wanjohi Jan 14, 2021

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has slammed Deputy President William Ruto for masquerading as a nationalist while he is in essence a tribal leader. Kalonzo accused Ruto of awarding his entire 50 percent share of Cabinet slots and government to Kalenjins while ignoring other communities.

Kalonzo pointed out that President Kenyatta acted as a nationalist by distributing his half share of the government among all communities in the country.

“Who doesn’t know that President Uhuru Kenyatta got 50% of the government. William Ruto got 50% of the government to the execution of everybody else?.. At least President Uhuru took his 50% as a national leader. What did his counterpart do? Look at the structure of government you will be amazed,” said Kalonzo.

At the same time, Kalonzo claimed that Ruto pushed for the axing of some non-Kalenjin cabinet secretaries to pave the way for “politically correct individuals.”

He cited former Health Cabinet Secretary Cleopa Mailu, who lost his position after Jubilee's reelection in 2017.

“Even Ambassador Mailu would be a minister today. I followed that story very closely with President Uhuru Kenyatta and I was told he [Uhuru] had no problem with Mailu. He would have continued as a minister,” said Kalonzo, adding that the unceremonious exit of Mailu left the entire Kambaland without a single Cabinet slot.

“You have a community with not a single minister and you really think you can come and confuse Wakamba with those monies of wheelbarrow economics?" posed Musyoka.

He was reacting to Ruto’s attacks on President Kenyatta for suggesting that perhaps it is time for the two communities that have led the nation since independence to allow others to produce the next president.

Ruto accused Kenyatta of advancing tribal politics, saying a leader should be elected on merit as opposed to the community they hail from.

“We cannot degenerate (to this level) because when I supported Uhuru, it was not because of his tribe but his agenda. I supported him knowing very well that Kibaki was Kikuyu. It was deliberate so that we end this politics of tribe and hatred,” Ruto said in response to Uhuru’s remarks last week.
