Nigerian Man Charged with Conning Nairobi Girlfriend of Sh31 Million
A Nigerian national was on Monday arraigned in court for allegedly conning his Nairobi girlfriend of Sh31 million.
Edwin Chukwudiebere Okoye appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Derrick Kutto of Kibera Law Courts where he was charged with obtaining money by false pretenses.
The court heard that Okoye conspired with others to defraud Ms. Bella Bronislavia on diverse dates between May 1st, 2017, and May 14th, 2018.
Bella told the court that the accused person borrowed the money from her to supposedly finance some government contracts he had won.
He also claimed to have a plan to introduce new phones into the Kenyan market and would repay the money with a commission.
The complainant testified that she transferred the money to the foreigner but raised concerns when he failed to refund as agreed. Okoye was arrested after Bella reported the matter to the police.
The accused told magistrate Kutto that he was already trying to settle the matter with the complainant through an out-of-court deal.
The magistrate allowed the two to solve the case outside the courts and report back with an agreement after which the matter will be withdrawn.
Bella and Okoye are said to have met at B-Club in Kilimani, Nairobi where they started dating and sharing business ideas.
