Four Kenyan nationals were on Tuesday arraigned in a Nairobi court for allegedly receiving over Sh50 million from unidentified people abroad.

The four, Warsame Abdi, Adan Noor, Ibrahim Mohammed, and Mohammed Hussein, are said to have received a total of Sh55 million from people in South Africa through MPesa.

The court heard that the four accused persons received the money together with others not present in court on diverse dates between January 1st, 2019, and August 31st, 2019. The charge sheet read that the millions were wired to 13 Safaricom Sim Cards that were all registered.

The four were charged with the offense of acquisition of proceeds of crime with the prosecution asking the court not to grant them bail citing the seriousness of the offense. Nairobi Principal Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot rejected the prosecution's request and freed the four on cash bail of Sh100,000 or Sh1 million bond each.
