DP Ruto Says Allies Forced to Call Him via WhatsApp for Fear of Phone Tapping
Deputy President William Ruto claims that his allies have resorted to calling him through WhatsApp over threats from top government officials.
Ruto alleged that the rogue officials were using the State intelligence unit to monitor phone calls between him and his allies. He said the tapping of the leaders’ phone conversations is aimed at discouraging them from associating with him.
Ruto lamented that leaders who associate with him are threatened through various State agencies including KRA, EACC, and the DCI.
As a result, his allies have been forced to communicate with him via WhatsApp, which offers end-to-end encryption, to avoid being monitored by the State intelligence apparatus.
“Of late, my friends have been calling me through WhatsApp. They are usually threatened that if they communicate and associate with me, they will be investigated by the EACC, KRA, and DCI, and, thereafter, be charged in court,” Ruto said during an interview on Weru TV.
He added: “The people using those offices (DCI, KRA, and EACC) to intimidate my allies are not acting on behalf of the president, they are doing so on their own behalf.”
