‘Atajua Hajui’: Murathe Claps Back at DP Ruto over Jubilee Wrangles

John Wanjohi Aug 30, 2020

Jubilee vice-chairman David Murathe has clapped back at Deputy President William Ruto after claiming he was responsible for the ongoing wrangles within the ruling party.

Murathe in response accused DP Ruto of being blinded by his greedy desire to succeed President Kenyatta in 2022, saying he is to blame for his woes.

“Mambo bado, ni kionjo tu. You wait, atajua hajui…We will prove to him that he’s not as smart as he thinks,” Murathe told Citizen TV in an interview.

Murathe further pointed out that the fallout between President Kenyatta and DP Ruto started even before the 2017 elections.

He also claimed that DP Ruto attempted to manipulate the 2017 Jubilee primaries by handing party tickets to candidates backing his 2022 presidential bid while locking out those he considered a threat to his State House ambitions.

“We gather that he wants to bolt out. He is free to do so and form another party. This one has its owners. I heard him call us junior fellows in the party, how do junior people run one out of town surely?” Murathe posed.

During an interview with the same station on Thursday, DP Ruto mentioned Murathe as one of the busybodies, conmen, and brokers who had hijacked the Jubilee party.

“Jubilee is not functioning as a party. We folded about 12 political parties to form Jubilee. Unfortunately, the party has been hijacked by busybodies, conmen, and brokers like David Murathe who have no clue about our philosophy. Their word has become the party position,” he said.

Ruto also gave indications that he was preparing to ditch Jubilee and form his party ahead of the 2022 election.

“When the President disagreed with Kanu, he formed TNA and when I was done with ODM, I formed URP. In politics, there are always options and I will employ them at the right time,” he noted.
