PS Charles Hinga to Kenyans: Hang Me at Uhuru Park if Kazi Mtaani Funds are Stolen
Housing Principal Secretary Charles Hinga says he is ready to be publicly hanged at Uhuru Park if funds set aside for the Kazi Mtaani program are embezzled.
Hinga said this on Friday while responding to a Twitter user named Joshua K Njenga, who claimed that the program will soon be hit by a multi-million-shilling scandal.
“They are the same people, but they have different names for their billions, wait until you hear the story of Kazi mtaani billionaires,” Njenga tweeted.
But in a rejoinder, PS Hinga declared not a single cent will be lost in the program, and if it happens, Kenyans should hang him at Uhuru Park in broad daylight.
“On this one, it won’t happen. If you find any, I am ready to be hanged at Uhuru Park in broad daylight,” Hinga stated.
He further indicated that they have already invited the anti-graft agency to probe claims of chiefs extorting cash from youth working under the program.
“We have put serious safeguard measures to avoid any shenanigans. EACC already invited to investigate allegations of chiefs extorting cash from the youth,” he added.
The Sh10 billion program was launched by President Kenyatta in April to cushion jobless youths from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The program has been running in all of the country’s 47 counties and will benefit more than 270,000 youths engaged in various community and infrastructure development projects. The initiative provides income to youths, with each receiving Sh455 for each day they work.
