DP Ruto Sends Message to the 'Deep State'
Deputy President William Ruto says only God and Kenyans have the power to decide who will be Kenya's next President.
Speaking on Tuesday, DP Ruto said attempts to use the so-called 'system' and 'deep state' to influence the outcome of the 2022 presidential election will fail.
“Tunatishiwa ati iko system, ati iko deep state, ati iko watu watatuibia kura hata mkipiga kura namna gani kuna watu wameketi mahali flani wataamua."
“Mimi nataka niwaambie, hawa watu tunawangojea, hiyo deep state tunangojea, na hiyo system tunangojea, watakuja na system sisi tutakuja na wananchi na Mungu,” he said while addressing a delegation of community leaders from Kajiado at his home in Karen.
Citing the hurdles he and President Uhuru overcame in the run-up to the 2013 elections, Ruto expressed confidence he will defeat the 'system and the deep state.'
“Kama ningekua mtu mwoga hatungeunda hii serikali ya Jubilee, kama Uhuru Kenyatta angekua mtu mwoga hatungeunda hii serikali ya Jubilee kwa sababu tulikua tunatishiwa mambo mingi,” he added.
Ruto spoke days after Jubilee vice-chair David Murathe declared 2022 will be ODM leader Raila Odinga's turn to govern the nation in what he termed as "Mandela moment."
“We think it’s time Kenyans rewarded the years of struggle of Raila Amollo Odinga. They owe it to him. It’s like (Nelson) Mandela, and 2022 will be a Mandela Moment. And we would also like to tell him (Raila) to be a transitional president who will then nurture the young generation to take over in 2027,” he said.
