20 Remandees Test Positive at Thika, Makongeni Police Stations

20 remandees held in two police stations in Kiambu County have tested positive for Covid-19.

17 of the cases were recorded at Makongeni Police Station and three at Thika Police Station, according to Kiambu County Police Commander Ali Nuno.

The 20 cases were detected from 68 samples tested last week after two remandees exhibited Covid-19 symptoms.

Several police officers from various stations in the county were also tested and are waiting to receive their results. 

Speaking on Sunday, Nuno indicated that six police officers have so far been infected with the virus in Kiambu.

On Sunday, Kenya reported 603 new cases of Covid-19, raising the cumulative tally to 13,353. The new cases comprise 361 males and 242 females aged between seven months and 86 years.

The death toll rose by nine to 234 while the total number of recoveries hit 5,122 after 682 more patients were declared coronavirus-free.
