John Wanjohi Jul 06, 2020

The rising cases of Gender-Based Violence and teenage pregnancies in the country has caught the attention of President Kenyatta.

On Monday, Kenyatta ordered the National Crime Research Centre to immediately launch a probe into the matter, saying offenders will face the full force of the law.

Uhuru who addressed the nation from Harambee House warned the perpetrators of the vices that their days are numbered.

“…the Centre [National Crime Research] is hereby directed to prepare an advisory to our security agencies on remedial action within 30 days from the date hereof and initiate immediate prosecution of all violators,” said Uhuru.

Further to this, Uhuru called on religious organizations to perform their civic responsibility in order to reverse the worrying trend.

“I am concerned by increasing tensions within our homes. Cases of Gender-Based Violence have increased, mental health issues have worsened, and instances of teenage pregnancy have escalated,” Uhuru noted.

“We must always remember that the family is a projection of the State. If the family is under attack, the State is under attack. If the family is weak, the country is weak.”
