Jubilee to Axe Senator Kithure Kindiki from Senate Deputy Speaker Seat

Senate Deputy Speaker Prof. Kithure Kindiki is set to become the latest victim of the ongoing Jubilee Party clean-up.

The removal of Kindiki from the Deputy Speaker seat was confirmed by the newly-elected Senate Majority Whip Irungu Kang’ata.

Kindiki, who is the Senator for Tharaka-Nithi County and an ally of Deputy President William Ruto, will be stripped of the lucrative position for skipping a Parliamentary Group meeting convened by President Kenyatta at State House last week.

Kang’ata said an impeachment motion against Kindiki is being prepared and will be tabled in the Senate on Tuesday, May 19th.

“Tomorrow (Monday) I will be drafting a motion that will be taken to the senate on Tuesday to recall deputy speaker… This will now be upon the House Business Committee. The move is because he has not given reasons why he did not attend the PG meeting,” Kangata told Citizen TV.

The news about Kindiki’s removal comes barely a week after Senators Kipchumba Murkomen (Elgeyo-Marakwet) and Susan Kihika (Nakuru) were kicked out from Senate Majority Leader and Majority Whip seats respectively.

The two were ousted during the PG meeting chaired by President Kenyatta and were replaced by West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisio (Majority Leader) and Murang’a Senator Kang’ata (Majority Whip).

Five Jubilee nominated senators who also skipped the meeting are facing expulsion from the ruling party. The five include Millicent Omanga, Iman Falhada Dekow, Naomi Jillo, Prengei Victor, and Mary Seneta Yiane.
