Police Go After Kenyans Filmed Harassing Drunk Assistant County Commissioner [VIDEO]

John Wanjohi May 15, 2020

A video of residents of Limuru in Kiambu County harassing an Assistant County Commissioner and demanding he explains why he is drunk in the morning hours has gone viral on social media.

In the undated video recording, one of the residents is heard asking the heavily drunk administrator to explain why he was drunk at a time when the county is fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.

The man, who is quickly joined by other residents, also demands to know where the administrator took his booze given that the government ordered the closure of all bars and entertainment joints as part of the measures to contain the spread of Covid-19.

The commissioner who has since been identified as Lincolin Kagunyi reacts by threatening to whip those harassing him as he maintains that he is not intoxicated.

Addressing reporters on Friday, May 15th, Kiambu County Commissioner Wilson Wanyanga defended Kagunyi saying he is a recovering alcoholic and warned residents that harassing him could worsen his condition.

“The ACC has a condition and he was brought closer home so that the family can assist in the recovery journey,” said Wanyanga.

He added that there are plans to book him to a rehabilitation facility as efforts to quit alcohol on his own have failed having battled alcoholism for years.

“We believe putting him in rehab will help him get over his drinking problem. Residents should refrain from worsening his condition by sharing those videos."

Limuru Deputy County Commissioner Charles Makele said police have launched a search for those filmed harassing Kagunyi.

“This is a sick man, he has his own rights ... residents ought to have reported the matter to the relevant authorities”, he said.
