Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has threatened to sue three senior government officials at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Sonko, through Facebook on Wednesday, May 6th, accused the three officials of committing what he termed as crimes against humanity.

The three include Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Karanja Kibicho, Nairobi Police Commander Philip Ndolo, and Nairobi Regional Commissioner Wilson Njenga.

He said the three were behind the forceful eviction of Kariobangi North residents from their houses despite an existing court order barring the government from forcing them out.

On Sunday, May 3rd, over 5,000 people living in the slum estate were left homeless after the government demolished their houses to reclaim the land.

“The elderly, children, and their Mothers are sleeping in the rains, what a curse? Let me study the Rome statues and engage the local and international lawyers to deal with this issue because this is a serious crime against humanity and this is the right time PS Interior Karanja Kibicho, Nairobi RC Wilson Njega and Nairobi Regional Police Commander Philip Ndolo MUST be taken to ICC for breaching articles 1.5, 53 and 7(1)(k) of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, ” Sonko wrote.

Sonko further claimed that the three officers ordered the flattening of the houses without President Kenyatta’s knowledge.

‘‘How on earth do you defy a high court order. Just the same way they defied an order we secured against the vandalization of the public sanitation booths and sent heavily armed police officers to supervise an illegal eviction during this deadly Covid-19,” added Sonko.
