The Health Ministry says the coronavirus disease is now spreading to counties as the number of infections in Kenya rose by eight to 216 on Tuesday.

So far, 21 out of the 47 Kenyan counties have recorded at least one case of Covid-19 with Nairobi being the most affected, according to Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Dr. Mercy Mwangangi.

"The virus is now domiciled across the length and breadth of the country," said Mwangangi during a media briefing on Tuesday.

Nairobi County has recorded the highest number of Covid-19 infections with 101 followed by Mombasa (34), Kilifi (10), Kiambu (7), Machakos (6), Mandera (6), and Nakuru (5).

Laikipia, Kitui, Kajiado, Murang’a, Kakamega, Nyandarua, Siaya and Uasin Gishu counties have two cases each.

Counties with one case of the bug include Kisii, Homabay, Nyamira, Nyeri, Vihiga, and Kwale.

Out of the 216 cases, 41 patients have recovered while nine have died.

CAS Mwangangi said testing kits will be distributed across the country ahead of mass testing for Covid-19 targeting 12,000 persons including 1,000 at the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) in Mombasa due to the identified risk of transmission.

Other targeted places include Kibra, quarantine facilities, Nairobi hospitals, as well as Mandera, Kilifi and Siaya counties.
