Magistrate, KDF Officer Among 30 Revelers Arrested at an Unbridled Party in Nairobi

Police in Nairobi are holding 30 people who were arrested at an unbridled party on Friday evening.

The revelers, including a magistrate and a Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) Colonel, were busted in a bar in Nairobi’s Embakasi area.

Police officers raided the joint after receiving a tip-off from members of the public. The party-goers were arrested for defying the government’s directive on social distancing and ban on social gatherings.

The suspects will spend Easter weekend in police custody pending arraignment in court on Tuesday, April 14th.

The government two weeks ago ordered the closure of all bars and nightclubs and banned all social gatherings as part of the measures to stem the spread of the coronavirus disease in the county.

In addition, the government imposed a nationwide dusk-to-dawn curfew and banned the movement of people in and out of Nairobi metropolis, Mombasa, Kilifi and Kwale counties.

As of Saturday, Kenya had recorded 191 cases of Covid-19, 24 recoveries and seven fatalities.

The Health Ministry has projected that the number of infections could reach 10,000 by the end of April.

To protect themselves from contracting the illness, Kenyans have been asked to observe social distancing, wear face masks as well as wash their hands regularly with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
