Undisciplined Kenyans Will Cost the Nation, CS Mutahi Kagwe Warns over Covid-19

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe is not happy with a section of Kenyans, who he described as undisciplined.

Speaking on Tuesday when he announced the confirmation of nine new coronavirus cases, CS Kagwe slammed some Kenyans for disregarding the guidelines issued by the government to prevent the spread of the illness.

There have been reports of people defying various government directives including the requirement to self-quarantine for 14 days after returning from abroad, thus putting people’s lives at risk.

A seemingly infuriated CS Kagwe CS warned that the reckless behavior could end up costing the nation in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We are suffering from cases of indiscipline; Kenyans are exhibiting a very undisciplined behavior, and this is going to cost us,” he warned.

He, at the same time, warned parents against employing people to look after their children following the closure of schools due to the outbreak.

“The kids were not sent home on holiday; they were sent home for protection. When we tell people ‘keep your kids safe’, we don’t mean you bring somebody in who, for all you know, is coronavirus-positive,” he said.

“We are telling you to keep your kids home with you, not exposing them to the disease; that’s why they’re home in the first place. It’s a grievous mistake for us to give your child because we don’t want them exposed, and then you go exposing the child at home and then afterwards, you call us and say ‘serikali saidia.”

He pleaded with Kenyans to strictly adhere to the measures put in place by the government to combat the spread of the disease including washing hands with soap, maintaining social distance, avoiding crowded places, and staying at home, among others.

“We want responsibility among citizens.”
