I Have Forgiven Myself over DJ Evolve’s Shooting, MP Babu Owino Says

John Wanjohi Mar 05, 2020

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has promised to fully settle the medical bills of Felix Orinda alias DJ Evolve.

DJ Evolve has been receiving treatment at Nairobi Hospital since January 17th, when he was allegedly shot on the neck by Babu at B-Club in Nairobi.

In an interview with Capital FM on Thursday, MP Babu said he had chosen to forgive himself over the shooting even as he played down claims that the incident has seen his popularity decline.

“That matter as you all know and as Kenyans know is a matter that is sub judice. It is a matter that is before a court of law and a matter before a court of law should not be discussed, as much as I would love to discuss and talk about it,” Babu said in reference to a court case against him.

“Secondly, it is a matter that is between me and God and I chose to forgive myself and I want to tell you, we cannot change the past but we can change the future. Let us focus on what is coming in the foreseeable future, let us not dwell so much in our past because we can’t change it no matter how much we wish to change it.”

“I will pay the [hospital] bill and I’ll leave it at that… I would not talk about it because it is a matter before a court of law,” he added.

As of February 23rd, 2020, DJ Evolve’s medical bill stood at Sh7 million and was projected to rise further as he was still admitted to the ICU.

On Tuesday, High Court Justice Luka Kimaru reduced Babu’s cash bail from Sh10 million to Sh5 million and faulted a decision by the lower court ordering the accused to foot the hospital bill of DJ Evolve.

Justice Kimaru said it was improper for the accused to be ordered to cover the medical bill given that he remains innocent until found guilty.

“The accused person should continue paying the hospital bill as a moral duty to him, not as a court order … if he fails to pay it is up to him and his God,” Justice Kimaru noted.

Babu pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted murder and disorderly behavior while carrying a firearm.
