All 239 Passengers Who Arrived at JKIA Aboard Chinese Flight Cleared of Coronavirus
All 239 passengers who landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Wednesday aboard a Chinese flight have been cleared of coronavirus (COVID-19), the government has said.
The Ministry of Health said all the passengers who arrived in a flight belonging to China Southern Airlines were screened, cleared and advised to quarantine themselves for 14 days.
“The Ministry of Health continues to be on high alert to ensure there is no importation of COVID-19 into the country,” the statement from the ministry read.
This came after the China Southern Airlines, which suspended its flights to Nairobi on February 10th, resumed operations on Wednesday.
The Health Ministry added that all the 17 coronavirus alerts that have so far been reported in the country tested negative.
“On Tuesday, February 25, 2020, two alerts, one along Riara Road and the other in Valley Arcade Nairobi County, were investigated and both did not meet the World Health Organization (WHO) case definition criteria,” said the Ministry.
As of Tuesday, the number of people infected with coronavirus stood at 80,239 while the death toll hit 2,700, a majority of them in China.
