John Wanjohi Feb 21, 2020

Appeals Court Judge Sankale ole Kantai was on Friday arrested in connection with the murder of Dutch tycoon Tob Cohen.

Judge Sankale was arrested in Kiembeni, Mombasa and driven to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters in Nairobi for questioning. He was later released after recording a statement with homicide detectives.

DCI head George Kinoti told Capital FM News that they want to establish the judge’s relationship with Cohen’s widow Sarah Wairimu, who is the prime suspect in the killing of her husband.

Sankale and Wairimu are alleged to have been in constant communication at the time detectives were investigating Cohen’s murder.

Wairimu was charged with the murder of Cohen on October 3rd, 2019 and was released on a cash bail of Sh2 million after pleading not guilty.

Cohen, who had lived in Kenya for over 30 years, was found dead on September 13th, 2019, nearly two months after he went missing. His lifeless body was discovered inside an underground water tank at his home in Nairobi’s Kitisuru estate.
