3 Killed After Al-Shabaab Attack Nairobi-Bound Bus

John Wanjohi Feb 19, 2020

Suspected Al-Shabaab militants on Wednesday ambushed a Nairobi-bound bus and killed three people.

The bus operating under Moyale Raha company was attacked in Sarmani area in Mandera County with five other passengers, including the driver, suffering injuries.

The public service vehicle was headed to Nairobi from Mandera when armed gunmen attacked it. This is the latest of the many attacks by al-Shabaab in Kenya since the beginning of the year.

Last month, al-Shabaab insurgents attacked a military camp in Manda Bay, Lamu County, killing three Americans nationals. The three included a US Army service member and two contractors.

Two other American citizens working for the US Department of Defense were injured. The attack prompted the US military to deploy more troops to reinforce security at the Manda airfield.

A few days later, four pupils were killed during a gunfight pitting Kenyan security forces and al-Shabaab militants who attacked a telecommunications mast and a school in Garissa County.

In the same month, suspected al-Shabaab fighters shot and killed three teachers at Kamuthe primary school in Garissa County and set a nearby police station on fire
