Mzee Moi Was over 100 Years Old, His Long-Serving Press Secretary Lee Njiru Says
The late Daniel Arap Moi’s long-serving press secretary Lee Njiru claims that the former President’s real age is not 95 years.
Njiru, who has worked for Moi for more than 40 years, claimed that the deceased died aged between 102 and 103 years. Speaking to Citizen TV on Tuesday morning, Njiru said Moi had on several occasions asked him not to refer to his Identity Card as it wrongly indicated his date of birth.
“I will confirm this to you, Mzee had told me not to look at his ID card, I want to correct you, Moi was between 102 and 103-years-old not 95-years-old like everyone is saying,” Njiru said.
Moi passed away at the Nairobi Hospital at 5.20 am on Tuesday. News of his death was announced to the nation through a statement by President Kenyatta who announced a state of National Mourning until Moi, who was Kenya’s second President, is laid to rest.
Njiru indicated that Moi had not left the Nairobi Hospital since his admission last October.
“Moi has been at the Nairobi Hospital since October 2019 and had not left the facility until his demise,” Njiru said.
