'I am a Billionaire': William Kabogo Speaks About His Wealth

John Wanjohi Feb 04, 2020

Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has spoken about his net worth and the source of his massive wealth.

Speaking on Sunday night during an interview on K24 TV’s Punchline show hosted by Anne Kiguta, Kabogo dismissed allegations that he acquired his fortune through illicit business, stating that he earned all his money through hard work.

“In the 1990s, I used to import cars. Then you needed a license to import cars. I remember my last shipment of cars from Japan to here, was a whole vessel with 175 cars. So if you are making Sh100,000 per car, how much is that? Big-time money,” said Kabogo, adding that he also used to supply commodities to supermarkets.

“I am the one who started the Eastleigh market…Here I am, clean as snow.”

Asked to state his total net worth, Kabogo revealed that he is a billionaire and declined to mention an exact figure but noted that he had not reached the level of a dollar billionaire (Sh100 billion).

“What is your net worth,” Kiguta posted.

“My net worth is good...no figures,” Kabogo replied.

"If you are as clean as snow, why no figure?” Kiguta posed.

“Why do you want me to advertise here what I own? I’m a wealthy man, that I will agree,” Kabogo replied.

"Are you a billionaire?” Kiguta asked.

“By what currency?” Kabogo replied.

“By Kenyan currency?” Kiguta quipped.

Kabogo: “Yes.”

Kiguta: “In US dollars?”

"No... that should give you an estimate,” Kabogo answered.

Kabogo also confirmed he owns a chopper that he said he purchased at slightly over US$2million (Sh200 million).
