Uhuru, Raila Invited to the US to Speak About Their Handshake

President Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga have been invited to the United States, where they will speak about their historic March 2018 handshake.

The two leaders are expected to attend the International Lunch in Washington, DC, on February 5th, 2020 to tell their “personal journey of faith and reconciliation,” Sunday Nation reported quoting a letter of invitation sent to them.

The International Lunch is an annual event related to the National Prayer Breakfast and honors members of the Diplomatic Corps based in the US. US President Trump and First Lady Melania will be the guests of honor at the National Prayer Breakfast.

Kenyatta and Odinga are among the keynote speakers for the lunch, according to an invitation from the US Congress’ National Prayer Breakfast co-chairs, John Moolenaar and Thomas R. Suozzi.

“As the keynote speakers for the lunch, we would like to ask you to share your personal journey of faith and reconciliation,” the invitation letter reads.

During a Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) public rally at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega last weekend, Odinga confirmed they had been invited to the US to give speeches about their unity pact.

“The handshake has got many people talking. I was recently invited to Togo to help them find a way to work together with the opposition in that country. This time around, President Kenyatta and I have been invited to Washington, DC, in February to the National Prayer Breakfast so that we can tell them more about the handshake because it is a unique thing,” Odinga said.

The invitation letter indicates that Kenyatta and Odinga will deliver their speeches at 12.30 pm.
