KRA Employee Found Dead with Suicide Note Blaming Betting for His Death
Police have opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) employee.
The body of 27-year-old Meshack Keith Bwisa was found in his house at Shikhambi Village in Kakamega County on the morning of December 29th, 2019. Meshack, an employee of KRA based in Kakamega, had been missing since December 25th, 2019.
The deceased’s family says they went to look for him at his rented house in Shikhambi only to realize he had locked the door from the inside, prompting them to seek police assistance. Meshack’s body was found lying on the bed after police broke door the door.
A jiko with charcoal ashes was found in the house, suggesting the deceased may have succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning. Police also found a suicide note in which the deceased detailed why he committed suicide.
“The body had swollen and decomposed. It is likely Bwisa died on the night of December 25, 2019,” said Kakamega Central OCPD David Kabena.
“There was a suicide note placed next to his body. In the letter, Bwisa blamed frustrations arising from unsuccessful bets as the reason for his suicidal ideation. In the note, he also advised the youth and his family members to refrain from betting, saying it ends up impoverishing people,” added Kabena.
