Machakos Governor Mutua Says DP Ruto Threatened Him at State House, Claims His Life is in Danger

Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua claims that his life is in danger after he received threats from Deputy President William Ruto and two other Jubilee leaders.

Governor Mutua recorded a statement at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices in Kilimani, Nairobi on Monday under OB No. 50/16/12/2019.

Addressing reporters after recording the statement, Mutua claimed that DP Ruto, National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale and Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen threatened him on two different occasions at State House, Nairobi. He said the three threatened him with unspecified consequences for allegedly criticizing Ruto. 

“On Monday, November 25, 2019, as the party leader Maendeleo Chap Chap, I was at State House to witness President Uhuru Kenyatta receive the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report. While waiting for the function to start, I was conversing with fellow leaders and politely greeted Aden Duale who was engaged in a conversation with Onesmus Kipchumba Murkomen,” he said.

“They told me that I have a habit of attacking them. When I asked them how they told me ‘we will teach you a lesson because you have been attacking Deputy President William Ruto.’”

He further alleged that Duale, who is the MP for Garissa Township, told him that there are over 50,000 Kambas in his constituency and he “can deal with them” as a way to punish him. On the second occasion, Mutua said he met DP Ruto at State House last week, where he threatened to crush him for allegedly attacking him.

“On the evening of Wednesday, December 11, 2019, I was a guest at State House for a banquet in honor of the Barbados Prime Minister Mia Motley. I was standing in conversation with Raila Odinga and other leaders. Someone came to speak to Raila and as I turned to go and speak to another leader I came face to face with Deputy President William Ruto and I extended my hand to greet him.”

Mutua added that DP Ruto firmly grabbed his hand and told him “you fellow, you have been attacking me very much…I must now crush you…I will crush you.”

“I believe that William Ruto is serious and capable of carrying out his threat to my life and general welfare,” he noted.

Mutua wants the police to investigate the matter as well as beef up of his security, saying the threats are linked to his stand on the fight against corruption and his declaration that he will run for President in 2022.
