Singer De’Mathew’s First Wife Stuns Mourners as She Vows to Protect Her Co-Wife

Sabina Wairimu, the first wife of late benga singer John De’Mathew, stunned mourners on Saturday after she vowed to protect her co-wife Caroline Waithira.

Speaking at the burial ceremony of her late husband in Gatanga, Murang’a County, the widow said the two never quarreled when their husband was alive, adding that nothing will come between them following the death of De’Mathew.

Ms. Wairimu said there was an attempt to drive a wedge between her and Ms. Waithira after the singer died but she has resisted.

She said Waithira respected her as the first wife and she will continue supporting her and their children.

“No one will come between us. I recognize Ms. Waithira as the second wife and she respects me. In fact, when the late could not get his favorite shirt, I could call her to ask whether it was in her home. Our children love each other and it is hard to know which one belongs to which mother,” she said.

She added: “But there are some people trying to incite us, but let them know that we are strong than ever. I will take up John De’Mathew’s roles and continue supporting Ms. Waithira and all her children.”

She said De’Mathew was a symbol of unity in their family, describing him as a partner, friend, and loving man.

On her part, Ms. Waithira noted: “There was no dull moment for us and it was the best decision ever to marry him. I will now be the father of our children now that you taught me,”

De’Mathew died after a road crash near Blue Post Hotel in Thika on Sunday.
