Late Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso to be Laid to Rest in Kisumu County
The husband of the Bomet Governor Dr. Joyce Laboso, Edwin Abonyo says the deceased will be laid to rest at their home in Koru, Kisumu County.
Speaking to Daily Nation, Dr. Abonyo said the family will announce the burial date soon even as the family continues to make funeral arrangements.
"The burial will take place in Koru at a date to be announced soon," Abonyo said.
Laboso died while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital on Monday afternoon after a long battle with cancer. She had been admitted at the facility since she jetted back to the country on July 14th after a medical trip abroad.
Laboso had left the country for the United Kingdom on May 29th after handing over duties to Bomet Deputy Governor Hillary Barchok.
She spent six weeks at London's Royal Marden NHS Foundation Trust Hospital before she was discharged to seek further treatment in India. Laboso, a former Egerton University lecturer, leaves behind a widower and three sons.
Luo elders expressed their wish that Governor Laboso is interred in accordance with Luo culture. Dr. Laboso’s husband hails from the Luo community.
"It is our wish that Dr. Laboso is buried at her husband's home in Kisumu County as per the Luo culture," Luo council of elders chairman Ker Willis Otondi told Daily Nation.
