FBI to Help Kenya Pin Down Graft Lords, US Ambassador Kyle McCarter Says

John Wanjohi Jul 22, 2019

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is set to help Kenyan investigative agencies to probe high profile corruption cases.

This was revealed by United States Ambassador to Kenya Kyle McCarter following a meeting with officials from Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

Ambassador McCarter said the US agency will assist Kenya’s investigative authorities such as EACC and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to come up with strong cases against graft lords. He further said the FBI will share intelligence on asset tracking and recovery with the Kenyan authorities.

McCarter, who spoke after talks with EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak and Chairman Eliud Wabukhala at Integrity Centre in Nairobi, declined to give specific details of the cases the FBI will be involved in.

“We don’t have to advertise everything we do because we don’t want to educate criminals. The criminals will be caught by surprise,” McCarter said.

“The people of Kenya deserve justice and we are going to deploy every resource. We want to win the war on corruption and that is our focus,” he added.

McCarter said he is committed to ensuring that all assets stashed in the US by corrupt individuals are returned to Kenya.
