The family of a seven-year-old Kenyan boy who died after being run over by a car in Deputy President William Ruto’s convoy a month ago says Ruto is yet to fulfill his promise to them.

Sidney Mambala died while undergoing treatment at Busia County Referral Hospital a few hours after he was knocked down by the car in Budalang’i, Busia County on June 7th.

Following the boy’s death, DP Ruto allegedly promised to support his family by building them a house, finding a job for his father, Felix Mambala and boosting his mother, Elizabeth Akinyi’s salon business.

Speaking to Citizen TV on Saturday, Mr. Malamba said attempts to reach Ruto through the phone have been unsuccessful.

“Hajawahi receive simu. Napiga simu hazishikwi. Mimi nasikia uchungu sana kumpoteza mtoto wa kwanza,” Mambala, who lives with his family in a mud hut in Mulwanda village said.

When reached for comment, Ruto’s office said the family was yet to receive assistance since the matter is still pending in court.
However, the family said Ruto should fulfill his promise as he is responsible for the death of their son.

“DP afanye vile aliahidi. Kama hangekuja budalangi (Sidney) hangekufa,” Ms. Akinyi said.

On the day that Sidney died, DP Ruto tweeted: “Saddened by news of the passing on of Sidney Mambala Felix, a young and bubbly boy. Followed closely the situation after I was informed of the unfortunate incident and, now, deeply condole with the family of Mzee Mambala, his peers and friends for the grave loss of a loved one.”
