President Uhuru's Reaction to Alleged Assassination Plot against DP William Ruto
President Kenyatta allegedly convened an urgent meeting with top security operatives as soon as he heard about the alleged assassination plot against Deputy President William Ruto.
The meeting was reportedly attended by Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, Inspector-General of police Hillary Mutyambai, and Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho, The Standard reports.
Others were Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti and National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director-General Philip Kameru.
During the meeting at State House in Nairobi, Uhuru is said to have ordered an immediate probe into the allegations.
The publication said President Kenyatta asked Kinoti to summon for questioning those accused of plotting to eliminate DP Ruto. He further ordered more officers to be assigned to Ruto's security detail.
On Monday, the DCI summoned four Cabinet Secretaries who are alleged to have attended meetings at La Mada Hotel along Thika Road to plan Ruto's assassination.
The four CSs are Peter Munya (Trade), Sicily Kariuki (Health) Joe Mucheru (ICT) and James Macharia (Infrastructure).
Addressing the media outside DCI headquarters on Monday, the CSs maintained their innocence, terming the allegations as wild and unsubstantiated.
"These are very serious allegations especially coming from a person of the stature of a DP occupying an extremely powerful and important office in the land."
"Indeed we held a meeting at La Mada and will continue having meetings. There were never meetings planned to assassinate the DP," CS Munya stated.
Speaking to Citizen Digital on Monday, DCI George Kinoti confirmed that DP Ruto called him claiming that there was an attempt on his life.
