2-6-3-3-3 Curriculum: Grade Three Learners to Sit for National Test in September

The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has announced that Grade Three learners studying the new competency-based curriculum (CBC) will sit for a national test later this year.

On Monday, the council released the timetable for the 2019 KCPE and KCSE examinations as well as that for Grade Three learners.

Class Eight pupils will sit for this year's Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam between October 28th and October 31st.

The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination will kick off on November 4th and end on November 27th.

KNEC also said that Grade Three learners under the CBC, which was rolled out in January this year, will sit for a test dubbed Kenya Early Years Assessment (KEYA) from September 16th to 20th.

The Grade Three pupils will be assessed in English, mathematics and integrated learning to determine their ability to apply the knowledge, skills, attitude, and values.

The new curriculum embraces a 2-6-3-3-3 system, where learners go through two years of pre-primary education, three years of lower primary, three years of upper primary, three years of lower secondary, three years of senior secondary; and three years in tertiary education.
