Waiguru Dumps DP William Ruto, Accuses Him of Undermining President Uhuru

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has ditched Deputy President William Ruto's camp.

Governor Waiguru announced the move when she joined an outfit of women leaders dubbed 'Team Embrace', which supports the handshake between President Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking during Team Embrace's tour to Murang'a County, Waiguru accused Ruto of undermining President Kenyatta through continued engagement in premature 2022 politics.

“Even the former Presidents had their deputies who did not campaign when they were in power. Let us wait and we shall organize ourselves in future," said Waiguru, who was previously a key ally and member of Ruto's camp.

She also castigated Mt. Kenya leaders who were openly campaigning for Ruto while President Kenyatta was still in office.

“Even when the Deputy President was coming for negotiations (with President Kenyatta), he came with conditions, we shall also come with our conditions to see who to support in 2022,” Waiguru noted.

Waiguru also threw her weight behind calls for a referendum to amend the constitution.

“We should be discussing the referendum in this country and not 2022 politics because the region should be mindful of its stake after the expiry of President Kenyatta’s term,” she said.

Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege also ditched Ruto's side during the tour.
