Senator Moses Wetang'ula to be Interrogated over His Role in Fake Gold Scam
Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula is set to be questioned over his role in the fake gold scam.
The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti says Wetang'ula has been identified as a key person of interest in the fake gold syndicate.
The con scheme has seen unsuspecting gold buyers, including members of the Dubai Royal Family and other foreigners, lose millions of shillings.
On Thursday, flashy Kenyan businessman Jared Otieno was arrested and two of his luxury vehicles- Porsche and Bentley, seized as the crackdown on those involved in the fake minerals scandal intensified.
DCI Kinoti says Wetang'ula has been lined up for a date with detectives.
“He is a person of interest and we shall be interrogating him and all others mentioned to determine their degree of involvement,” says Kinoti.
There are allegations that the politician was used by fraudsters to shore up confidence among the 'buyers' targeted with the fake gold.
Wetang'ula was allegedly in constant communication with a representative of the Dubai Royal Family, which is said to have lost over Sh400 million in the scam.
Also lined up for interrogation are politician Zaheer Jhanda, businessman Don Bosco Gichana, former Senator Chris Obure, and Richard Kubo, who runs a logistics company at the Wilson Airport.
“We shall go for those within Kenya and those without – and they will be recording statements with us," adds Kinoti.
More than 40 suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the fake gold fraud.
