Two Police Officers, Three Others Charged with Stealing Millions from Barclays Bank ATMs in Nairobi
Five suspects arrested in connection with the robbery of millions of shillings from Barclays Bank ATMs in Nairobi two weeks ago have been arraigned in court on Thursday.
The suspects, who include two police officers, two security guards, and a taxi driver, have been charged with stealing from various Barclays Bank ATMs.
Fredrick Herman Otiya, Daniel Orero Okindo, George Gachungu Njoroge and John Otieno Makambogo have been charged with stealing Sh2.8 million at Barclays Bank ATM located at Kenya Cinema Plaza along Moi Avenue in Nairobi.
The four have further been charged with conspiracy to commit a felony of stealing Sh2.84 million from Barclays Bank.
The fifth suspect, Patrick Nyoike Karanja, a taxi driver, has been charged with stealing Sh1 million from Barclays Bank.
The accused is alleged to have committed the offense at the Barclays Bank ATM situated at Mater Hospital in Nairobi on April 20th.
The accused persons have denied the charges and have been released on a cash bail of Sh500,000 each.
The hearing of the case is set for June 5th, 2019.
Barclays Bank is said to have lost Sh14 million from four ATMs in Nairobi during the Easter Weekend heist.
