Nairobi Residents Lament as Downpour Leaves City Flooded [PHOTOS]
The pathetic state of Nairobi's drainage system has once again been exposed following a downpour on Tuesday that has left many parts of the city flooded.
City residents have taken to social media to criticize Governor Mike Sonko for failing to fix the menace that has now become an annual occurrence.
Roads worst hit by the flooding include Kipande Road, Ojijo Road and parts of Thika Road.
Westlands and South C are the most affected areas, with smaller vehicles visibly half-submerged into the water.
Governor Sonko has assured residents of a quick response in case of flooding or any emergency within the estates. Tuesday afternoon rain has lasted for close to an hour.
Here are some of the reactions from city residents;
@michael_nesh tweets:" This section of Ojijo Road is constantly affected by flooding whenever it rains, what happened to the much-hyped drainage clearance that the county govt purported to undertake."
@kushpol says: "Year in year out when #NairobiRains Woodvale Groove in Westlands becomes impassable. #Nairobi Drainage is trash."
@Washkoe tweets: "20 mins rain in Nairobi and the roads are already flooded... smh...
Awaiting Huduma Number miracles."
@Kipkoech notes: "The streets of Nairobi always flood at the slightest drop of rain because the drainage system is not good.
“It's a great time to shade the county government over instant floods whenever it rains but we've been at it for years,” says Kimani Njoro.
