Police have arrested 18 suspected criminals who have been terrorizing residents and matatu operators in Nairobi estates.

The 18, who are believed to be members of a dreaded criminal gang dubbed 'Kamjesh' were arrested on Wednesday night during a police swoop in Eastleigh and Pumwani estates.

The joint operation was carried out in several bus termini in the two estates by officers drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Administration Police and regular police.

"A joint operation by DCI, AP and Kenya Police officers has resulted in the arrest of 18 suspected criminals in Eastleigh and Pumwani."

“The suspects have been illegally manning stages and engaging in other organized crimes,” the DCI says in a statement.

The DCI says the suspects will be arraigned in court on Thursday to face various charges.

The gang reportedly rakes in millions of shillings per day through collection of illegal fees from matatu operators.
