Laikipia Woman Rep. Catherine Waruguru Arrested for Allegedly Inciting Taxi Drivers to Disrupt Matiang'i Meeting

Laikipia Woman Representative Catherine Waruguru has been arrested over alleged incitement.

Waruguru was arrested in Nanyuki town moments after leaving a security meeting chaired by Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

She is accused of inciting Probox and Sienta car drivers in a Nanyuki hotel to disrupt the security meeting held at the Mt. Kenya Safari Club.

Police arrested several taxi drivers and impounded their cars, something Waruguru terms as harassment.

“The police want to show Matiang’i that they are working,” she claimed.

“If anybody feels they want to detain me, they are free to detain me but nobody will stop me from defending my position and the position of the people of Laikipia,” she said during her arrest.

“I’m inciting nobody… Are they (operators) criminals, they’re not? Get yourself busy doing some meaningful work, arrest criminals, the Al Shabaab, terrorists, bandits, that is your work. Stop intimidating young men and women who are doing business because they are meeting in a hotel. You think this is Kismayu? That they were meeting here to plan how to attack you, it’s not…,” she told police officers.

She was taken to Nanyuki Police Station before being released hours later.

Immediate former Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet, Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi and other leaders from the area attended the security meeting.
