US Forces Kill 35 Al-Shabaab Fighters in Latest Airstrike
The United States military forces have killed 35 Al-Shabaab militants in the latest airstrike in Somalia.
In a statement, the US Africa Command says the airstrike targeted Al-Shabaab fighters in central Somalia.
The Africa Command adds that the strike was launched on Sunday near Beledweyne, Hiran Region.
"This air strike targeted armed al Shabaab militants as they were transitioning between locations in a rural area," the statement reads.
The US has been launching constant airstrikes to weaken the Islamic terror group that is seeking to overthrow the weak, United Nations-backed Somali government and impose strict Islamic law.
Last year, more than 300 Al-Shabaab militants were killed in 48 airstrikes carried out by US forces.
52, 24 and 13 fighters were killed in three similar airstrikes launched by US forces in January and early this month.
Al-Shabaab has been a major security threat in the East African region with Kenya being one of their main targets in recent years
The terrorist organization claimed responsibility for the January 15th attack at 14 Riverside Drive in Nairobi's Westlands area where 21 people lost their lives.
