Kalonzo: President Kenyatta May Be Kenya's Prime Minister in 2022

John Wanjohi Feb 13, 2019

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka says President Kenyatta may be Kenya's next Prime Minister if attempts to introduce changes to the Constitution are successful.

Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV, Musyoka says Kenyatta is a unifying figure in the country and still commands a lot of political influence.

"I meant that post-2022; we have to envision a situation where we will attempt to have a gov’t of national unity. In that situation, I do not see how one can write away Uhuru Kenyatta."

"If Jubilee wins or emerges as the party with majority seats in Parliament, whoever will be president will have to appoint him (Kenyatta) as Prime Minister," says Musyoka.

Kalonzo has also denied calling for an extension of Kenyatta's Presidency through the removal of presidential term limit.

"I do not in any way advocate for an extension of the presidential term," he clarifies.

He has also defended his support for President Kenyatta following his March 9th, 2018 handshake with ODM leader Raila Odinga.

"In my view, I was admiring what Uhuru has done. No other president has been this bold. We have the responsibility to support him."

"Uhuru Kenyatta and I come from the same geopolitical block. I could step down for him as (Executive) Prime Minister," he notes.
