Meeting between Deputy President William Ruto and Kenyans in the UK Canceled

A planned meeting between Deputy President William Ruto and Kenyans living in the United Kingdom has been canceled.

In a statement, the Kenya High Commission in London, which had organized the meeting, has announced that the event has been canceled.

Ruto was set to interact with Kenyans in the diaspora during the one and a half hour meeting which was set to take place on Friday from 6:30 pm (UK time).

The High Commission said only 600 people would be allowed to attend the forum with tickets being given on a first-come-first-served basis.

"Good evening. Thank you for registering to attend the Cocktail to be hosted by H.E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto, Ph.D., EGH, the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, scheduled for Friday 8th February 2019 from 1830hrs to 2000hrs in London," the High Commission says in a statement.

"However, due to unavoidable circumstances, the event will not take place. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused."

Ruto is this weekend expected to deliver a lecture at the London's Royal Institute of International Affairs, commonly referred to as Chatham House.

Ruto’s lecture at Chatham House will be themed "Kenya’s national unity and regional integration: Challenges of Inclusion, Growth, and Change."

He is also scheduled to give another talk at the University of Warwick on Saturday.
