DP William Ruto is Behind Reports Linking Me to Drug Trafficking, Mombasa Governor Joho Says
Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has blamed Deputy President William Ruto for reports linking him to drug trafficking.
Joho claims that Ruto has sent his lieutenants to advance the narrative that he is involved in smuggling and sale of narcotics in the country.
Addressing journalists in Mombasa, Joho has challenged Ruto to face him in person instead of sending his errand boys to attack him.
“I cannot engage in a war of words with those people because I know they have been sent by their master William Ruto,” Joho says.
“I dare you Ruto. Stop sending your sidekicks, come out and face me yourself,” Joho adds.
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) secretary general Edwin Sifuna and Makadara MP George Aladwa, who accompanied Joho, have defended him against accusations that he is involved in drugs business.
“When we leave here, we are going to our lawyers so they can take legal action against those issuing these reckless statements. So Sang and the others should be ready to face ODM lawyers,” Sifuna says.
Joho has threatened to sue Nandi Governor Stephen Sang and MPs Oscar Sudi (Kapseret), Kimani Ichung’wa (Kikuyu) and Didmus Barasa (Kimilili MP) for linking him to the drug trade.
Joho has also written to the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), seeking clarification on reports about his alleged involvement in drug trafficking.
